Kalanggaman Island, Palompon, Leyte

Just the view of this paradise would be the enough reason to go to Kalanggaman Island. After endless reading at blogs of other travelers who have been here, it's now my turn to see the beauty of the place and share it to others.

Kalanggaman Island

 How to get here

Go to Ormoc City bus terminal. Ride a van going to Palompon. Travel time is around 1.5 to 2 hours. Fare: P110

When you reached Palompon, ride a pedicab which would take you to Liberty Park. Go inside the park and you would see the Eco-Tourism Office. Inquire at the tourism officer regarding the boat which would take you to the island. Luckily, there were other tourists who went with us so it made the boat rental cheaper. Boat rental is around P2,500-3,000 depending on your haggling skills. Travel time is around 30-45 minutes depending on the sea current.

Finally, paradise on Earth...

When we went there, it was also the celebration of Lawig Festival.

It is highly suggested that you leave the island at around 3PM because the last trip of the van going to Ormoc is around 5PM. Unfortunately, we left the island  before 4PM with confidence that there would still be van going to Ormoc. We watched the rehearsal of Lawig Festival presentation for a while. True to the words of the locals, there were no more van to take us to Ormoc. We had no other option but to rent "habal-habal" costing us P700 per person. It was one of my most unforgettable travel because of such ride. I was wearing summer-ish outfit resisting the cold wind for almost an hour. Changing sitting position every now and then to prevent a certain side of my body from getting stiff. It was also a bit scary passing through dark roads of an unfamiliar place. But still, we thank the Kuya who safely brought us to Ormoc. It was not part of the plan but this made our travel an adventurous one. ^_^

How To Get Here

From Balingoan Port in Cagayan de Oro, take a ferry which could take you to Benoni Port since this is nearer to Mambajao, the capital of Camiguin.

Transportation: habal-habal (motorcycle) where two persons can ride or better rent a multi-cab if you going there in groups.

Where to dine? Vandep: Kainan sa parola..don't forget to buy Vandep pastel for pasalubong.

Places to visit: Katibawasan Waterfalls, 256 feet high

Ardent Spring Resort..according to the locals, dipping in its hot water was said to be therapeutic because it contains sulphur, a medicinal element that can cure illness.

To cool yourself off, try Sto.Niño Cold Spring.

Sunken Cemetery..20 feet under water..only this cross is visible..located in the barrio of Bonbon.

White Island...sand, Mt. Hibok-Hibok and a lifeguard seat..no more, no less..getting to the island is through a short boat ride from Yumbing, Mambajao.
